PIRE-AfricaArray Project Student Opportunities
Students can participate in this project in a number of ways:
- Undergraduate students at historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) that are physics, math, engineering or geoscience majors are eligible to participate in field work in Africa, and also to attend an 8-week long summer geophysics field program. The field work will involve traveling to remote parts of eastern and southern Africa to install and service seismic stations. The trips will be 2 and 4 weeks long, and will occur at various times between summer 2007 and summer 2010. Students interested in participating or obtaining additional information should contact Dr. Andy Nyblade.
Information about the summer geophysics field program can be found at http://www.africaarray.psu.edu/field_course/field_course.htm.
- Graduate students interested in pursuing seismology research in Africa should contact Dr. Andy Nyblade to find out about the current availability of graduate assistantships. This project provides graduate assistantships for several students.
